It is with great honor that we announce the renaming of Credit Union of America’s Golf Classic to The Credit Union of America Bob Thurman Memorial Golf Classic. As the tournament marks its 20th anniversary, the new name recognizes the legacy of the late Bob Thurman and the role he played in shaping its mission.
Bob founded the CUA Golf Classic in 2006 and served as its Ambassador. From the beginning, the tournament focused on supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at Ascension Via Christi. Bob was deeply moved by the hospital’s mission and believed strongly in helping families manage out-of-pocket medical expenses for sick and injured Kansas children. Through his leadership, the tournament has raised more than $875,000 to support children and families in our community.
That same focus on helping others defined Bob’s career at Credit Union of America. He began working at CUA in 1975 and was named CEO in 1981. Over 43 years of service, Bob demonstrated that credit unions exist to put people first and strengthen the communities our members call home.
Renaming the tournament in Bob's honor ensures his legacy continues. His values, his commitment to community, and his dedication to helping families will guide this event for years to come.
